What...Would you Say...You Do?

For most of our lives, we've been inundated with images of Architects. Hollywood alone has presented us with a myriad of examples from Mr. Brady (The Brady Bunch) to Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother). The examples are far-reaching yet still cloaked in layers of obscurity. Aside from the rolls of drawings and models that sit on their drafting boards, we're never given a clear indication of exactly what they do. Even Art Vandalay (Seinfeld) himself didn't seem to have a clue about the actual day-to-day life of an Architect. Moreover, we've never been given any real sense of the value Architects can offer to us.  This is the reason why many of us have never worked with an Architect nor have we known many people who have hired one.

It is not uncommon for most people to align themselves with professionals of their choosing far in advance of actually needing their services. If you ask the average person, they can tell you the name of their doctor, their lawyer, their accountant and even their mechanic.  Most of us, however, have not aligned ourselves with 'our architect' and the core reason for this is simple - we don't really know what architects do. How can they help make our lives easier, more convenient and more efficient?  What value do they bring to the table? Can they unburden us? Can they educate us and be our translators? Can they save us an awful lot of money?

The answer is a resounding YES! In a series of upcoming blog posts, we will try to uncloak the profession of Architecture by dissecting it into useful, bite-sized anecdotes that, we hope, will paint a clear picture of WHAT, exactly, WE DO!
